Botox, short for botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum. It is a popular cosmetic treatment used to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by injecting small amounts of the toxin into the muscles of the face. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, resulting in smoother and more youthful-looking skin.
