Retinol has to be one of my go-to skincare products - with incredible results for both myself and my clients.

Alumier MD Retinol Resurfacing Serum

Retinol has to be one of my go-to skincare products - which for me and many of my clients has transformed our skin in a matter of weeks.

If you already use retinol in your skincare routine then you will know the difference it can make. Using retinol alongside a full spectrum sunscreen is the best active ingredient for reducing lines and resurfacing scarring and sun damage.

Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A and works to deeply exfoliate the skin, increasing the natural cell turnover to reveal a brighter and more youthful complexion.

Retinol comes in many different formulas and must be used with caution so always seek the advice of a qualified skin practitioner before starting your journey as over or incorrect use can cause a totally adverse effect.

A few top tips to consider when using retinol are:

Retinol comes in different strengths - start low and go slow would always be my advice. When you begin or are increasing your level of retinol - gradually introduce it. Starting off with 2-3 times per week for a few weeks and increasing it only if necessary. If you over treat the skin it can become irritated and sensitive and often present signs of over peeling which isn’t conducive to everyday life.

All forms of retinol will oxidise when exposed to the elements making it less effective. So try to opt for a product in a pump so the air can’t get in and a covered container to protect from light exposure.

Choose a formula that contains encapsulated retinol as this will ensure the active ingredients are gently released into the skin during the course of the night rather than hitting it with one blow which can shock the skin and cause irritation.

When using retinol make sure you advise your practitioner if you are combining with in-clinic skin treatments including laser, chemical peels, micro-needling, radiofrequency or even waxing as this can impact the treatment and results.

And as always ensure you are using a full spectrum sunscreen during the day to protect that lovely new skin you are working so hard to achieve.

Alumier MD has one of the best retinol products I have used. It comes in three different strengths covering  0.25% , 0.5% and 1%

It is microencapsulated with soothing ingredients like honey and sodium hyaluronate to allow gradual time release with maximum results and minimal discomfort and downtime.

This product is free from dye, parabens, sulphates and artificial fragrance. It is of course also cruelty-free - what's not to love??
